Massachusetts SWAT Teams Insist They’re Private Corporations With No Public Accountability

"You see, it’s expensive for every department to have its own SWAT team so several departments pool their resources and create what is called a “law enforcement council” or LEC. This is not an unreasonable idea. BUT! Some of these LECs are incorporated (presumably for tax purposes) and, according to them, that means they are a private entity that is not accountable to the public. I can’t imagine it would take much for these LECs to take the next logical step and become for-profit entities with private ownership."
