"Even as Donald Trump won the state, North Carolina voters chose last week to elect a new liberal majority to the state supreme court. The new North Carolina Supreme Court would provide a check on the power of the GOP’s veto-proof super-majority in the state legislature. But the legislature has come up with a scheme that would add two seats to the court and allow Gov. Pat McCrory (R) to appoint two justices — maintaining the conservative majority."

NC Gop Gets Tim Kaine's Flag Pin Horribly Wrong [UPDATED]
"The July 28 Observer article noted that the North Carolina GOP inaccurately tweeted that Kaine was wearing a “Honduras flag pin on his jacket but no American flag.” However, WNYT reporter Ben Amey was quick to point out that Kaine’s pin was a “Blue Star Service pin for his son, who’s a deployed Marine.” The North Carolina GOP account replied, thanking Amey “for letting us correct our mistake,” but failed to apologize to Kaine for the error. Because they are jerks."

Forty-one races for the NC House and 13 contests for the NC Senate fielded a single candidate by the close of filing. An additional 16 House and 2 Senate races will be decided solely in the primary. Ultimately, 72 of the state's 170 seats – or 42 percent – will be decided before a single vote is cast"
