It’s Not Too Late: Save Democracy By Amending the Constitution | The Nation
"The Constitution should be clarified so that it sustains rather than throttles democracy. Do away with the Electoral College. Ban the practice of gerrymandering. Close the loophole that allows governors to appoint cronies to vacant Senate seats. And then get serious: ask, as Congressman Victor Berger did more than a century ago, why America maintains a House of Lords–like Senate where, today, the vote of a member elected by 121,000 Wyomingites can cancel out the vote of a member elected by 7.8 million Californians. Consider electing members of the House to four-year terms that parallel those of the president, so that the popular will of 131 million voters in the presidential elections can’t be stymied by 90 million midterm voters."

"Then there’s always their love of tax cuts and supposed hate of our national debt. Let me break this down a bit. In the 80′s, under Ronald Reagan’s leadership, we massively cut taxes – which then led to our national debt nearly tripling. Then there was George W. Bush who came in and passed more tax cuts, promising they would eliminate our national debt within a decade – but instead they added nearly $5 trillion to it. Being that tax cuts have never proven to create jobs, just more debt, Republicans literally support economic policies that drastically decrease the revenue this country takes in (which always leads to an increase in our national debt), while claiming to be the party that represents fiscal responsibility. Meanwhile, the GOP hasn’t had a president from their party balance the budget since Dwight D. Eisenhower in the 50′s. Only in the delusional minds of Republicans can you believe that you’re the party for fiscal responsibility, yet every Republican president for the last half century has left office with a larger national debt than before they went in."

"it just highlights Walker's ignorance about how nuclear arms races actually work. He seems to think doing a deal with Iran hastens their development of a nuclear weapon, when in fact the opposite is true. Whoever is advising him on foreign policy (I suspect it's the likes of John Bolton and his ilk), has no fundamental understanding of what it means to actually get a deal where we stop the development and pieces of development moving toward a nuclear weapon and instead decelerate nuclear buildup in the region.
In Scott Walker's world, shutting down enrichment facilities in an accountable and transparent way is somehow a way to accelerate their weapon development and an arms race in the Middle East.
That's what Walker is campaigning on, and it's the reason he will not ever see the inside of the White House as a resident. When 2/3rds of the voters in this country want a deal to be done, the idea of blowing it up to stick it to Obama and the Democrats AND our global partners while sucking up to Israel is the most irrational, ridiculous promise he could possibly make."

Even GOP Election Officials Think Rick Scott’s Latest Voter Suppression Attempt Is ‘Perplexing’
http://thinkprogress.org/election/2015/04/02/3642353/rick-scott-online-registration/
"Gov. Scott’s critique of the legislation is no surprise given his prior attempts to stifle voting in Florida. In 2012, Scott and other GOP lawmakers passed a number of election laws that made it more difficult to vote, including cutting the number of early voting days and restricting voter registration. The efforts ended up causing massive lines and chaos at the polls. After the election, Florida Republicans admitted that the election law changes were geared toward suppressing minority and Democratic votes.
Scott also oversaw a controversial and error-riddled voter purge which was ruled illegal because it was conducted too close to the 2012 election and accidentally disenfranchised voters.
Scott attempted to fix the situation in 2013, when he signed a bill to reverse his own election laws and restore early voting days, but he still insisted that he “did the right thing” by passing the laws in the first place."

Thanks To Obamacare, Over 50,000 Lives Were Saved From Preventable Deaths
http://www.addictinginfo.org/2015/04/01/thanks-to-obamacare-over-50000-lives-were-saved-from-preventable-deaths/
"How is it that Obamacare managed to save 50,000 people from death? It invested in our hospitals to prevent such things. Under the healthcare law we have something called Partnership for Patients, which allocates approximately $460 million dollars between 3,800 hospitals, and using 27 health engagement networks, work to reduce ten categories they call “patient harms.” Patient harms are anything from drug events to catheter-associated urinary tract infections.
The study showed that, over the course of three years, there we 1.3 million less incidents with patient harms, which saved roughly 50,000 patients who would have died based on the severity of the incident. The Washington Post also reported that, due to the strides made with the Partnerships for Patients, “The upward trajectory suggests tens of thousands in additional patient lives may have been saved since 2013"."
"How is it that Obamacare managed to save 50,000 people from death? It invested in our hospitals to prevent such things. Imagine the Republican Freakout if Conservative Christians Were the Ones Being Discriminated Against
Imagine the Republican Freakout if Conservative Christians Were the Ones Being Discriminated Against
"What amazes me the most is that we’re seeing almost the exact same arguments people used decades ago to oppose desegregation and legalizing interracial marriage; now they’re using the same reasoning to support their unconstitutional stance against equality for members of the LGBT community. But I can’t help but think to myself, what if conservative Christians were really the ones being discriminated against? Just think about that for a moment. Many of these conservative Christians want to discriminate against homosexuals while claiming it’s all about “religious freedom,” yet these are also the same people who would claim that anyone who opposes and fights against right-wing Christian ignorance is waging “a war on Christianity.” Funny how that works, isn’t it? It’s ridiculous how many of these people seem to think it’s perfectly acceptable to fire someone because of their sexual orientation, yet these same people would blow a gasket if someone were fired because they were a Christian. The truth is, if you’re going to recognize “religious freedom,” you can’t pick and choose which of those “freedoms” you want to allow. If your religion opposes homosexuality, but mine opposes right-wing ignorance, why are your beliefs more valid than mine? Conservative media outlets like Fox News often say Christianity is under attack simply because the majority of this country is sick and tired of having someone else’s religion forced upon them. Somehow there’s a “war on Christianity” because a non-Christian – or even a Christian like myself who doesn’t subscribe to the warped distortion of my faith by conservatives - wants to be able to live their lives without having to abide by the religious beliefs of someone else.
Imagine for a second if conservative Christians were the ones really being attacked. What if businesses started denying service to them? Why is it a “war on Christianity” to support boycotts against states or businesses that oppose gay rights, but it’s “religious freedom” to support businesses that want to discriminate?"

What 'Religious Freedom' Really Means
"The furor over recent "religious freedom" bills being passed in various states -- particularly Indiana, with similar viruses festering in North Carolina, Arkansas, and Texas -- has caught the attention, I'm sure, of a certain class of religious believers.
Namely, the people whose own religious faith, such as it is, dictates a belief in the supremacy of the white race and the diminution and demonization of all non-white races. They are real, they do exist, and they go by such names as the Christian Identity movement or its Church of Jesus Christ-Christian, or the Creativity Movement, aka the World Church of the Creator (WCOTC)."

"This bill isn’t a copy of the law passed in Indiana which seems to be prefabricated for use by conservative legislatures across the United States; this is legislation that would go beyond that and sanction a very specific type of discrimination under the guise of “religious freedom.” If this sounds familiar, it is a very similar argument to one that Maurice Bessinger used unsuccessfully before the Supreme Court 50 years ago. Mr. Bessinger claimed that despite laws outlawing segregation, his religious beliefs trumped federal law under the 1st Amendment. Maurice Bessinger lost his appeal of Newman v. Piggie Park Enterprises to the Supreme Court, in an unanimous decision of 8-0."

Republicans Write Letter To U.N. Encouraging Countries To Ignore Obama. Sound Familiar?

"It’s no secret that the Republican Party loathes President Obama with a seething anger. He demolished their candidates in two separate elections. He has managed to accomplish a great deal during his terms despite their avowed goal of obstruction. But perhaps worst of all, he has become increasingly popular over the years as his agenda gets realized. Republicans look like the spoiled brat throwing a temper tantrum – and they know it.
In a new odious tactic that circumvents having to actually beat Obama politically (which they can’t do) or win over the public (which they also can’t do), Republicans have taken to the radical approach of undermining the president by going behind his back and insisting to other world leaders that the president is not important, not to be trusted, and safely ignored. According to an exclusive report by Reuters, Republican congressional leaders have sent a letter to the United Nations, asking that member countries back away from any climate deal that Obama might offer."
